There is so much to see and do in Baltimore that you can easily pack your itinerary. Take a break and relax in the fresh air. You can do this in South Baltimore at West Covington Park. It is a safe public green space, perfect for casual recreation.

History

West Covington Park was a neglected waterfront industrial space and brownfield. To revitalize the area, it was turned into a community-use green space. The Ayers Saint Gross landscape architects and graphic designers are behind the park’s design. Completed in 2015, the park is 12.2 acres.

Nature Conservancy

This is not just a park; it is also a conservancy. The park features habitats that encourage the local birds and insects to thrive. The park's design focuses on habitat restoration, sustainable stormwater management, and brownfield repair.

What To See

Look for educational signage to teach you about the local wildlife. Plaques are located on the walking paths of the park. Walking and biking paths throughout the park make enjoying the entire outdoor space easy. A pier connects the park to the water for fishing or enjoying the view. Sit back in the Adirondack chairs and watch the boats go by. A sandy area is perfect for playing beach volleyball. The plentiful grassy areas are an ideal place to enjoy a picnic while admiring the water.

The park is also near Nick’s Fish House at the Baltimore Yacht Basin. This makes it the perfect place to enjoy a walk before or after dining out.

Events

Several events occur in the park throughout the year. These encourage the local community to gather and use the park as intended. Food trucks will gather in the park for food and beverage options during weekends and events. During the summer, the park hosts outdoor movie nights and concerts by local musicians.
