Belle Isle Park

Belle Isle Park is an impressive 982-acre island located in the Detroit River. In addition to beautiful outdoor grounds and gardens, there is an aquarium, conservatory, museum, and plenty of things to do.

Aquarium

Open Friday-Sunday, 10 am- 4 pm, it is free to visit the aquarium. However, a $5 donation is encouraged. It is the oldest aquarium in the country, first opening its doors in 1904. Thanks to extensive remodeling and upgrading, this aquarium is an impressive sight. In addition, it is home to the world's most extensive collection of air-breathing fish.

Belle Isle Park Fountain

Conservatory

The elegant glass dome and atrium stand regally above the park. It is closed for an extensive $10 million renovation project, with plans to reopen in 2024. When open, the conservatory and gardens are free to enter.

Museum

This unique museum features an impressive collection of maritime artifacts. Open on Friday-Sunday, 10 am- 5 pm. It is $5 for adults/kids and $20 for a household. Its 16,000-square-foot facility is home to one of the world's largest collections of model ships.

Things to Do

There are plenty of outdoor activities at the park. Hit the golf course, layout at the half-mile beach, Wizz down the giant slide, or play a game on one of the many athletic fields. The park also hosts several events throughout the year.

Dining

There are no restaurants located on the island. However, you will find several food trucks throughout the island during the peak summer season. You can also bring food.

How to Visit

You need a Recreation Passport to enter the park. It is $13 for cars and $7 for motorcycles. You can purchase a pass when registering your vehicle at the county clerk’s office. You can also purchase one at the park's contact station. To reserve a shelter, you can do so online for $8 or through the call center for $10. This is in addition to the specific shelter's reservation fee.
