Thanks to the tireless efforts of the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy, locals and visitors can enjoy the Detroit Riverfront. The area that is the Detroit Riverwalk was once neglected and derelict. Through revitalization, the space is now a beautiful community-use space. While an ongoing project, the Detroit Riverwalk extends about 3.5 miles along the east riverfront.

Things To Do

There are plenty of things to do, making the Detroit Riverwalk versatile and enjoyable for everyone. There are parks, plazas, pathways, and pavilions. You could walk, jog, run, or bike along the numerous pathways connecting these parks.

Dequindre Cut

The Dequindre Cut is one of the most well-known and used areas of the Detroit Riverwalk. It is a two-mile greenway built on a former Grand Trunk Railroad line. It features a 20-foot wide pathway with designated lanes for pedestrians and bicyclists.

William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor

One park worth visiting is the William G. Milliken State Park and Harbor. It is home to the Outdoor Adventure Center, which offers several outdoor activities. You could walk behind a waterfall, across a suspension bridge, through the canopy of a massive bur oak tree, or into a real airplane. There is also a 63-foot lighthouse to explore.

Aretha Franklin Amphitheater

The Aretha Franklin Amphitheater is an outdoor theater that has a 6,000-seat capacity. You can attend free events here by nationally known and local musical artists.

How To Visit

The Detroit Riverwalk and its many parks are open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Extended hours are implemented for special events. There is free parking on the park's west side and paid parking on the nearby streets.
