Built in 1926, the Tampa Theatre is one of the country's most opulent and elegant theaters. Gracing the ceiling is a realistic night sky, complete with twinkling stars. Then, the theater’s setting features a romantic Mediterranean courtyard design. Every detail has been thought of with flowers, statues, and gargoyles. Over 700 events take place at the theater each year.

History

When the Tampa Theatre opened, patrons could enjoy a movie showing for 25 cents. It was an opportunity for people to experience opulence that they wouldn’t normally have access to in their everyday lives. Over the years, it experienced a rise and fall in popularity. Today, the Tampa Theatre Foundation manages the theatre and ensures it remains a protected piece of Tampa's history.

Theater

The theater features 1,200 recently renovated seats. Seats on the orchestra level on the first floor have increased legroom with an additional six inches per row. The seats on the mezzanine level have small bistro tables that are perfect for enjoying refreshments. Up in the back of the balcony are intimate seating options. These are perfect for a romantic date night.

The two banquettes are a unique seating option added during the most recent renovation. Each features appropriate seating for four. This couch-like seating is perfect for lounging or those with young children. This seating is first come, first served for general admission events. For reserved seating events, you must purchase four tickets for the entire banquette.

Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ

The crown jewel of the theater is the 1,400-pipe organ. When the theater originally opened, it would accompany the playing of silent films. Today, you can enjoy its music before film screenings.

Shows and Events

You can purchase tickets to various films, live shows, and annual events. While many of these are designed for adults, some are designed for children. There are also sing-along events that take place on Sundays. Attendees are encouraged to dance and sing along to the showing.

Dining

There are concessions located in the theater lobby that offer a full range of food and beverages. You can buy classic movie snacks like popcorn, candy, and soda. There are also more refined concession offerings like salami and cheese trays, coffee, tea, and bottled water. Adult libations, including beer, wine, and signature cocktails, are also available.

Balcony Backstage Tour

Instead of purchasing tickets to a show, you can attend one of the tours. This 90-minute experience will uncover the theater’s secrets, stories, and architecture. This is your opportunity to admire the theater’s artistry. To complete the tour, you will see a Mighty Wurlitzer Theatre Organ demonstration. These tours fill quickly, so purchasing tickets in advance is best. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for children 12 and under, and free for Tampa Theatre members.

How to Visit

To visit the Tampa Theatre, you must purchase tickets to a movie, show, event, or tour. Pricing varies based on the show, seat selection, and show time. Several parking options are available, including street-metered spaces, privately owned lots, and parking garages.

Watch a movie in one of the most elegant movie theaters in the country.
