Lincoln Financial Field, often referred to as "The Linc," is a major landmark in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, serving as the home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles. Opened in 2003, this modern 1.7 million square foot, open-air stadium has become more than just a venue for football; it is a hub of sports and entertainment, reflecting the rich culture and spirit of Philadelphia. The city’s sports fans are known to be passionate, specifically as the Eagles football team has become one of the most successful and dynamic franchises in the NFL. The Eagles have appeared in the Super Bowl three times in the last decade, having won it twice. Most recently they defeated the powerhouse Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. But perhaps the most exciting victory was at Super Bowl LII in 2018 when the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New England Patriots, culminating in a dramatic finish that ended with a 41-33 victory. This win not only brought the first championship to the city in over 50 years but also solidified The Linc’s status as hallowed ground for Philadelphia fans

Lincoln Financial Field officially opened on August 3, 2003, after the demolition of the old Veterans Stadium, which had been the home of the Eagles since 1971. The construction of The Linc, which cost over $500 million was part of a bigger effort to enhance Philadelphia’s sports infrastructure. The decision to build a new stadium arose from the need for a modern facility that could offer better amenities for fans and improve the overall game-day experience. Lincoln Financial Group, a major financial services company, secured naming rights for the stadium, which led to its present name.
Lincoln Financial Field features a unique and innovative design that enhances the spectator experience. Each seat is designed to provide the best view possible of the field and the stadium has one of the largest seating capacities in the league. There are 172 Luxury Suites in the stadium and located in six separate areas throughout the stadium. There are also two exclusive club lounges. The lounge on the west side is the "Hyundai Club" and the one on the east side is the "Tork Club". Suite holders and club seat holders have access to these 2 lounges. There are a total of 10,828 club seats in the stadium.
The exterior wall reflects Philadelphia’s red-brick history and is constructed mostly of masonry. A dramatic steel superstructure combines references to the namesake bird’s wings and talons, and soars up to 250 feet above grade. The asymmetrical roof structure not only provides shelter for fans but also incorporates natural light into the seating area. This design also reduces shadows on the field, ensuring that players perform in the most optimal conditions. The stadium also features state-of-the-art video screens, giving fans enhanced visibility of replays and game highlights as well as halftime entertainment.
Lincoln Financial Field is not only an architectural marvel but also a model of sustainability. The stadium was designed with various eco-friendly features aimed at reducing its environmental impact. One of the standout features is its utilization of solar panels, which contribute to the stadium’s energy needs. In addition to solar energy, Lincoln Financial Field implemented water conservation measures, including low-flow plumbing fixtures and a state-of-the-art irrigation system designed to minimize water usage for the stadium’s landscaping.
The Linc offers a wide-ranging selection of dining options from traditional stadium fare like hot dogs and pretzels to local favorites such as cheesesteaks and soft pretzels. While there’s plenty of choices for food inside the stadium, the tradition of tailgating is a singular experience in the City of Brotherly. On game days, the parking lots surrounding The Linc become a sea of team colors (expect a lot of face paint) as the place fills up hours before kickoff. Thousands of fans come together to grill, socialize, and chant their favorite Eagles cheers. (“Fly Eagles Fly” is the team’s unofficial anthem which can be heard as a low, constant roar throughout the game.) There’s also plenty of beer flowing, lawn games and impromptu dance parties. This communal atmosphere, which has been a mainstay for generations of fans, adds to the excitement of attending a game and is an essential aspect of Philadelphia’s sports culture.
While Lincoln Financial Field is primarily known as the home of the Eagles, it hosts a variety of other events throughout the year. These events include college football games, concerts, and special community events. One of the notable college football events that have taken place at The Linc is the Army-Navy Game, a long-standing rivalry that attracts fans from across the country.
Over the years, Lincoln Financial Field has been the site of many iconic moments in Philadelphia sports history and has solidified its place in the hearts of fans. The stadium’s cultural impact extends beyond sports; it has become a symbol of resilience and community pride.
